Have you guys seen an IMAX movie? I'm sure, You are. Don't you enjoy this movie? A large screen, clear. But do you know What does it need to make an IMAX movie?
The word IMAX is derived from the words 'Maximum Image'. It is a system of High-Resolution Cameras, Film formats & Film Projects. Graeme Ferguson, Roman Kroitor, Robert Kerr & William C. Shaw developed first IMAX cinema projection in late 1960 & early 1970 in Canada.
What was there before IMAX?-
- 1929- Fox Grandeur- 70 mm Film Format.
- 1950- Cinema Scope- 35 mm Film Format.
- 1952- Cinerama- Multi Projector System.
- 1954- Vista Vision- 35 mm Film Format.
IMAX cinema process increases the image resolution by using larger Film frames. To get increased image resolution 65 mm film stock passes horizontally through the IMAX camera. At 24 FPS, IT goes 102.7 meters per minute. While in conventional 65 mm film cameras it passes vertically with 34 meters per minute.
Tiger Child is the First ever movie filmed in IMAX.
Architecture -
IMAX screen size- 52 - 70 Feet.
Normal movie screen size is about 20 to 50 feet wide.
A screen is a bit closer and curved so images on the screen can completely filled your vision area. Stadium seating is just like in the image. You hear 1800 watts of Digital surrounded sound. (No chance of missing any dialogue.)
IMAX is about transporting you into the Immersive world!

Process-
DMR (Digital Re-Mastering Process)- It typically means converting an analogue movie into digital i.e. into ones and zeroes. There is a lense through which a light passes which scans pixel to a pixel from every frame. It takes almost months to process a 2 to 3-hour movie. Then it gets dust busted. It means every frame gets checked if there is a dust particle & if it is there then pixels at that place got changed using a computer program.
DCP (Digital Cinema Package)- The whole converted digital IMAX movie is now transferred to a small hard drive. Then it just connected to the projector. It takes two to three hours to actually ingest it in the projector.
The movie goes through so many small processes. I just explained two major processes. Tell me in comments If you liked it. & Do not forget to follow this blog.
